Nvidia's next-gen GPUs could release as early as July

I like these 'leaks' coming out, not because of whether they're accurate or not, but because they will make many of those thinking of buying a new GPU hold off their purchase in anticipation of new GPU's, this in turn will put more pressure on retailers, who will have to drop prices even further on the 10xx line of stock they're scared of getting stuck with.

£399 & £499 1080 & 1080ti's soon, anyone? :D

I doubt it is coming this early. Gddr6 hasn't had enough supply built up to support a Nvidia launch.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too, well, it's more of a fact than a thought.

Also, no event has been announced - and Nvidia does like to out their gaming cards at their own events.

Lastly, Tom's site is more often than not full of it with their made out of thin air sources.

Unless Nvidia are going to launch a few hundred and then have a "stock problem" while they wait for a large batch of memory ? This way they can at least say they've launched Turing/Volta or whatever it is.

Remember that JEDEC first published their GDDR5X standard in Jan 2016 and Nvidia released the GTX 1080 in May of the same year. This was with Micron being the sole manufacturer of GDDR5X.

All we have to go in is the reports that SK Hynix will have their GDDR6 in mass production in June.

Assuming that other GDDR6 manufacturers like Samsung and Micron are ready at around the same time, likely earlier in Samsung's case, a Founders Edition release could be possible in mid-late July.

Even then with the GPU market as it is there is no reason why Nvidia couldn't just delay the release until August or later if DRAM supply isn't on their side, it's not like anything is stopping them from waiting right now.

Doesn't the latest intel suggest SK Hynix is way ahead and has it out earlier? We need Samsung tbh, Hynix its speed is subpar and we know nothing about Micron yet.

Has Nvidia ever launched in July? I think August in the past?

It'll be later. Probably mid August for the back to school sale in the US I'd guess. Enough time to ramp up production with enough supply of GDDR6 and just not enough to ensure they can have shortages and charge us more and then blame memory suppliers even though they make record profits.

Sounds about right

It's an awful time when a pessimistic remark isn't pessimistic at all but a reality... In other words, I hear you, and can see the likelihood of it...

Well considering PNY are the makers of all founders editions. I guess its on them not Nvidia. Let's hope there is enough for all. NV will want market domination, so for that to happen they really need to keep up with supply and demand.

They already dominate the market right now and currently they're just releasing trickles of Pascal to look active, and could do the same with Turing for different reasons. I'm a bit weary because of the ruined market, I admit.

Might be forced to upgrade or get a different 1080.

My current one is starting to black screen randomly. It last about 2 seconds during games. Never happens outside it. Hoping it's a driver issue.

I should have said "maintain domination". Well I'm not a fan boy but I have always stuck with Nvidia, simply because they are better. Price wise, it is less of a dent on my wallet considering our salaries here (not trying to boast). So I don't think we suffer as much in Norway as the UK. I really feel sorry for UK consumer. You guys get scammed worst of all.

I will probably even return back to SLI. Yes I know its no where near as good as it used to be, but I loved the aesthetics in my case. the 1080Ti was the first time I went single card, and it has caused an itch ever since.

Wonder if they will repeat their idiocy though, release a Titan variant first then let early adopters be fooled, before releasing the Ti gaming variant later.

I love the look of my SLI but so not worth it with the lack of support these days.

I'm still on 9 series so I'll start saving now and if NV stay true to form the Ti will come out about 10 months after the 1180. I figure around June next year. I can't believe that the 1080s been out nearly two years already...

I think the beauty of SLI for me is that the games I do enjoy do support it. Still not a worthy investment but one card in my case feels empty. As you say, we will see what is released. My heart tells me "its only money, get SLI" but my brain tells me to use some common sense..

My conscience however... its stuck in traffic somewhere so has nothing to say :D
