Intel retires Kaby Lake-X less than a year after its release

Who would have thought that releasing quad-core CPUs on X299 was a bad idea?

I would like to know how many did they sell (if any). And i don't mean in pre-built systems, when you go and pick whole case from the shelf. How many people said "I want that CPU" and bought it.

"Today I will buy an over priced chip on an over priced board, most of which I won't be able to use properly".

There HAD to have been a sound reason for doing this in the first place. Do companies worth billions really make such stupid mistakes? I don't know whether that's a rhetorical question or not.

Really makes you wonder doesn't it? You'd LIKE to think companies this big GOT this big because they're being run by intelligent people, but sometimes I wonder too!

They made it for overclockers. It was all but guaranteed 5ghz, and that's a number Intel had been chasing for years. Especially since AMD did it first.

Well, I guess that makes sense. I can see their reasoning. Still a stupid idea, but I'm saner knowing that there was a reason other than, 'why not?'
