AMD Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 7 2700X Review

Finally the covers are off of the 2nd Generation of Ryzen CPUs and we put them both through their paces as well as a huge selection of X470 motherboards.

AMD handing out the slaps.

Very pleased with the reviews of this. Same price for more, always a winner in my book

meltdown patch

Now, do the tests again with meltdown/spectre applied on intel cpus, as you should.
And you will see a VERY different story, with 2700k destroying 8700k in almost every measure).

(check out anandtech's review to get an idea)

Just waiting on your x370 vs x470 comparison video or write up, If there really is no difference when doing a manual overclock I shall get the 2700X as that review was ace !

I'm with you on this. I'm really curious to see whether X470 offers any performance benefits over X370.

Excellent review, Tom. These CPUs look fantastic. Some reviewers have hit 4.4Ghz, which is the golden number. Silicon Lottery might be selling 4.4Ghz 2700Xs to quite a few OCN members.

It's quite tempting for me to upgrade from my aging 6700K to a 2700X now. I'll get double the cores and I won't be sacrificing anything much in single threaded stuff.

The main difference for Ryzen Gen 1 was gaming, but with the improvements and the higher speed memory I think it's largely irrelevent now for most people now.

It's nice to genuine choice back in the CPU market again. Choice for me is now whether to wait for Zen 2 or get a 2700X....

Looking forward to watching the video when I'm home from work later.

Because you'd have to buy a new motherboard, a new CPU, and likely new RAM, I'd say wait until Zen 2. A 6700K is still going to be as fast or faster in gaming with a GTX 1070.

To me, to buy a 2700X now would be if you plan on staying with AMD's architecture for the foreseeable future (a few years, say), if you're already on X370 and have an R5 1600, if you're on a 4c/8t CPU and you need 8c/16t (for productivity) or if you just have a strong desire to upgrade (for no particular necessity) and have the money to splurge.
