AMD is reportedly working on Z490 series chipset

AMD's rumoured Z490 chipset will offer users more PCIe lanes.

As someone else said I reckon this could be for the unannounced 2800X.

Could they just all stop with the similar names? The confusion doesn't help anyone at all. It's petty.

Z490? Not confusing at all, it’s basically Intel now helping AMD with their naming as Intel only could go so high

Yeah should have been X490.

I just don't see why AMD can't call it Ryzen Chipset gen 1/2/etc. Makes it pretty damn clear what it's for
