Land Rover has created a tough smartphone for outdoor use

I agree, due to my various prejudices I would be far more likely to consider a Subbie over a Landy. However, a Otterbox doesn't give you IP67 or IP68 qualification, internal suspension, and does become loose and sloppy with wear, as well as having a cheap and easily marred display protector. Plugging anything in through an Otter is also frustrating, and at times impossible. So, of course I am required to keep an Otter on my work phone. SMH.
