Visceral's Star Wars games was too linear for today's gamers

"people don't like [Linear games] as much today as they did five years ago or 10 years ago"

Read more on EA's dissatisfaction with linear games.

LOL do they actually listen to their customers EVER?

No one has EVER liked linear games. Not once. That was why Crash Bandicoot and Croc were so poo and Mario 64 wasn't FFS.

Yeah, you'd think they would have figured that out when Skyrim / Fallout sold like blazes. I've been crying for a Skyrim-sized Star Wars game forever. A game like that would FLY off the shelves.

I'm actually pleased that EA don't make games that appeal to me, that way I don't have to boycott them.

Translation:

The opportunity for EA to rip people off with DLC & loot boxes was insufficient and the lead developer wasn't going to accept EA's attempt to force more of it in.

T-ossers.

Yeah that feels pretty accurate.

Don't think you guys know what linear games are... Gamers don't care what type of game it is as long as it's fun. Last of Us is a great example of a linear game.

I just hate that Visceral is gone now. I've loved every single Dead Space game and was hoping to see a 4th eventually. Now that EA has killed off yet another one of my favorite developers, I guess that's never gonna happen. Well it could happen if EA tries to wring a few extra dollars out of the franchise and hires a bunch of hacks to offer up a watered down version that doesn't come close to living up to the name. ME: Andromeda anyone?

I was genuinely excited for it. A unique single player Star Wars game made by the same guys who worked on Dead Space. What's not to be excited about?

Linear games are great for what they are: short, linear, story-driven adventures with great core game dynamics. I'd hate it if that was all we had, but some of my favourite games have been very linear, Max Payne being the first one that comes to mind. Max Payne gave you tiny 'sandboxes' that allowed you to perfect and hone your bullet dodging skills, all within a wall of excellent characters and story. Not every game has to be a Fallout or Skyrim and not every game should be.
