AMD's upcoming Raven Ridge APUs will feature 4 Ryzen CPU cores

Nice. I've recently built an A10-8600k HTPC (got the chip for nothing) which is working very nicely and also managing some basic gaming and emulation duties; however it's really struggling to do PS2 emulation as the on-board GPU isn't quite up to the task.

If the GPU on these is based on Polaris or better then maybe I'll switch over to a Raven Ridge APU and see how it does.

Moving from DDR3 to DDR4 will have a huge impact on APU performance, as well as the increased clock speeds and other architectural improvements that are present in AMD's recent GPUs.

This should be a really good earner for AMD, as what has let AMD's APUs down greatly is their power efficiency, so the move to Zen/14nm will help a lot here. Also the increase in single threaded performance will be transformative for their low power stuff.

Imagine a future entry level gaming notebook that just needs an APU. After all the GTX 1050 is an entry level notebook GPU now, so an APU with similar performance will be a huge win for AMD.

Laptop makers could make some very interesting designs based on this APU, especially since it will be just a single chip to cool and will require a lot less space than separate CPU+GPU solutions. It will really stick it to both Nvidia and Intel.

..and the APU that will power the PS5 in 2019 is born, or at least this is it's parent from which it will be derived.

this should be a really good APU, fast memory a great cpu (theoretically) along with a far superior GPU and smaller node....AMD should be on to a winner

Really hope it's efficient enough to have only 4 core SKUs. The lower end GPU and/or clock speeds should be what brings the power consumption down. I just can't stand dual cores anymore.
