Benchmark results for AMD's Ryzen CPUs have emerged, showcasing performance that is over 50% higher than their FX 8370 and offers similar IPC to modern Intel CPUs.

For me it will come down to pricing and overclocking.

If these can clock to 4.2GHz+ with relative ease on 8-cores and come in at a price that is significantly lower than Intel, Zen would be easy to recommend.

Hopefully, AMD will have some competitive prices on the Quad-core and 6-core models as well, something that will kill Intel's current pricing model for their i7 CPUs.

I don't understand how you guys are all that excited about this? This is the 8 core/16 thread variant of Ryzen, and it barely keeps up with Intel's i5 6500? Once again, this is considerably underwhelming.

In gaming applications per core performance matters most, which is why the highly clocked i7 6700K tops that graph rather than the $1000 i7 6900K.

With the Ryzen CPU tested using lower clock speeds than final retail models, with a base clock speed of 3.15GHz rather than 3.4GHz. Gaming performance is understandably lower than expected due to these lower clock speeds.

What matters here is that clock/clock performance and power consumption is similar to Intel, which means that AMD has a chance of regaining a lot of market share if they price their products correctly.

As said above, you need to look at the big picture and not take numbers at face value. You'll understand why we are excited

Just to add to what you said the 8-core/16-thread is probably designed for going against the i7 6900k and competing in multi-threaded programs, 3D modelling and video editing. I would somewhat expect some of the CPUs with lower core counts to have higher clock speeds and the CPU right below the 8c/16t CPU might be designed for going against the 6700k.

Exactly, I hope that there is a 4 core 8 thread model that completely undermine the marketing position of Intel's i5 and i7 K-series CPUs.

TBH the 6700K's price is stupidly high, hopefully Zen will make Intel reconsider their pricing strategy.

When I spoke to a Streamer last week they said they would be excited about a 6 core 12 thread now that actually does sound interesting seeing as more people stream their gameplay these days

What would be a more "reasonable" price for it do you think?... (Genuinely curious :))

Well seeing as the first gen i7 was $300(iirc) then I'd like to see it back at that price instead nearly $400 depending on the day... I've never seen it lower than $349. Absurd. I only got my 6700k because it was $289 on eBay, slightly used

I bought an I7 950 for £220 back in 09/10. The I5 at the time was about £140.

Sandy I5 2500k launched @ £150.

We will get those prices back basically, just as soon as Zen comes out.

Ahh I see... Well then the current prices are really taking you from behind then.

Totally. Intel have known Zen was coming for a while, I think they have been making the most out of fools as they can before it drops.

They are aware of who Jim Keller is, so yeah, taking the pee for as long as they could before they get a price/reality slap.

I really hope that AMD gets back in the game =) intel have dominated the scen so long and they only make thing more and more expensive.
