Theory is when you have the "know how" but nothing works.
Practice is when everything works but no one knows why.
In our lab, theory and practice are combined: Nothing works and no one knows why

This is genuinely a disappointment for me, I have such love for the original two games. Hopefully they will get this sorted and I will feel that it is a worthy investment in the future.

Same. I am looking forward to seeing how this new patch will change things.

In all honesty it would have been better for the developer to delay the game for a week and avoid this bad press.

I completely agree, I would much rather wait for a week or even month to play a high quality game from the start than invest knowing that there is a chance that it may not be "Playable" for weeks after owning it.
