Microsoft has acquired Beam, a company that specialises in live game streaming where viewers have the ability to interact with the player.

As of 3:33 PM ET only about 2,621 people are viewing streams on Beam.

Even if they make an app so Xbox One owners can stream to it I imagine most that stream will stick to Twitch due to it having a larger possible audience and those that only watch will also see no reason to switch unless their favorite streamer that they absolutely need to watch makes the switch.*

And since Steam has basically nothing to do with streaming, besides providing a storefront to buy the games that people stream, I don't think this will help Microsoft in their battle for the PC gaming space, where their main competition is Steam.

*I want to think though that most streamers won't make such a switch since if you already have an established community on Twitch making the switch could lead to you losing more viewers then you would gain.
