Intel Skylake-E will use new LGA 3647 socket and use 6-channel DDR4 memory

So the CPU will go back to having actual pins, like the AMD chips? Rather hard to tell with that image, but those look like pin holes.

It's LGA, so either that socket is still not populated with pins (being a pre production sample, I assume) or the pins are so small that they don't look like other LGA pins under that light.

sadly the picture isn't great, but it is all we have right now.

Look at the CPU cover and it specifies LGA,

so no moving your old CPU cooler over. This is going to be a nightmare for either manufactures to make 2 of all of their coolers pushing prices up, or we are going to be left with little choice for this socket.
Cant wait to see them running though

Lga 3647 cpu

Here is a picture of the back of the CPU

As you can see pins will be on the socket, which actually doesn't suprise me because pins will be so thin they might get easily broken when putted on CPU, one wrong catch and bye bye Xeon ;)

This is cleary a server board and those traditionally have the small/narrow socket. Most likely the Skylake-E boards will have mounting similar to what is used on E-Series before.
