Samsung Mass Producing 4GB HBM2 memory stacks, with plans to mass produce 8GB HBM2 memory stacks later this year.

Are you for serial that next gen HBM2 gpus will have 16GB? Man that will be a big step forward in memory density/bandwidth

Provided that they use 4 chips like last time. if they use only 2 then they will have 8GB.

Later in the year there will be chips with 8GB per chip, which is just insane!

HBM 2 can go upto 32GB

my surprise is at the suggested amount of memory packed with gpu's not the size of the packages

Doing it the other way would tell you the same answer? You would still take a guess at what the next gen GPUs would have. Besides we've known the actual package of HBM2 since pretty much HBM1 was out
