AMD will be adding C++ and CUDA translation to their GPUs, hoping to close the gap between AMD and Nvidia in the HPC market aswell as improving their drivers.

Read more on AMD's embrace of the CUDA Community.

Where has all this sudden jump in ideas come from AMD? I'm not complaining but surely they should have done this all a few years ago. Still, great news. Hopefully this makes their Linux drivers much better in general as well. Which any hardware/software company which claims to be all 'open source' and 'community friendly' should have sorted out a while ago.

When AMD formed their Radeon Graphics Group earlier this year the idea has been to really focus on GPUs etc by themselves and to improve things for developers and to otherwise improve their own software.

All of this is part of AMD's plan to return to profitability by the end of next year, so let's just hope that this doesn't turn out like a "Top Gear" plan. Ambitious, but rubbish.

As said above, why so late in the game? was this a case of AMD trying to be different for Nvidia to there own detriment ?

Also as above, its a good move and better late than never, lest just hope the next 14nm round of AMD chips can get close to maxwell in terms of power and efficiency

In addition was created to more easily spin off that part of the company if a buyer comes in and buys AMD out. Hopefully HSA(+) is successful, the HPC market is pretty big and getting some of that business would really help AMD out and keep them from going under.
