The specifications for Intel's Broadwell-E CPUs have been leaked, revealing CPUs with up to 10-core and 20-thread.

Sadly that is unlikely for the foreseeable future.

Intel have NO competition, which means no reason to waste money on expensive research and development.

They also believe that in the way applications are still written, a more efficient HT quad core will cut it.

In short, Intel are starting to rip off consumers and lie. The i7 6700k was £350 on release, where as sand and ivy were around £230 - £240 respectively. They go so much anger and hate about the 6700k price (which is a glorified Haswell chip with DDR4 and m.2) that they lowered it not even a month after release to £250

Glad you don't need a new socket for it. I'm sure it will be overkill for most situations but man it sounds like it's going to be a performer.
