ASUS GTX980 Strix Review



Having looked at the GTX970 version of the ASUS Strix and found it to be incredible, how does the GTX980 Strix stack up?

Typical we in Australia are being ripped off the 980's are more expensive the the 780Ti the Strix here is $869 more than $100 dearer

Nice review and comparing the 980 to 970 results I would question for those running 1080p is the extra £ for the 980 worth it

The price difference for the cards is substantial, but when you're looking at the cost of entire systems each one is going to come in much closer to the same £/performance mark. And really, that's the most logical way of looking at it. Your PSU is one of those things you have to buy, but it's not going to give you any better framerates. Nor is your harddrive, your case, or most of the other things you spend money on.

To illustrate the point: PCPartPicker's current $1000 and $1200 pre-configured builds sport a 970 and 980 respectively at the moment. The 970 build is still slightly better price/performance, but the difference is massively smaller than looking at the cards directly.

In my budget build I've got a pentium anniversary paired with a 750 TI strix, I'd argue for the majority of games even the 970 is overkill for 1080p gaming.

I've been impressed with the strix tech as well, silent, even when the fans spin up.

I almost went for this card it was between this and 2 970's, still wondering if I made the right choice
