Mobile G80 Ready for Santa Rosa Launch

Nvidia is apparently readying its GeForce 8 mobile graphics processors with DirectX 10 support for the next-generation Intel Centrino Pro mobile platforms. It'll be certainly interesting to see how the mobile variants of the 8800 series cards impact on battery life in a laptop. Care to comment? Feel free to do so below...

Some news...

Looks good.

Anyone care to comment on wether or not these G80s might be available on smaller screensizes (such as 12" to 15")? Are graphic processors this fast usually too big to fit into lappys this size?

With admiration

I expect they will be installed into laptops with larger screens, but you may be able to buy some in smaller laptops.

But is it even possible to fit them into that small laptops? Wouldn't that require taking out the harddrive or something?

And thanks for the promt answer.

umm no wtf?

They'll just be a normal add-in GPU board for a laptop adapted for smaller form factor and lower power consumption

The GPU itself is the same size as current mobile GPU's found in laptops. Nothing different really. We may not see 640mb or 768mb of memory, but 512mb sounds feasible in the high end gaming lappys.

Oh. I might not have made myself very clear. I thought the really high end GPUs available today are too big to fit into anything but 17" and 19" laptops. Is this a false assumption then?

With anticipation
