Nvidia To Ban Overclocking On All Upcoming G80 Graphics Cards

Yes I know it's 'The Enquirer', but the suggestion that Nvidia wants all overclocking banned on the G80 cards certainly holds some water. What would be your reaction as an end user if the above statement were true...A mass exodus to ATI? Feel free to comment below...

I thought once you overclock your card the warenty was vioded anyway. But theres no way of telling if the card had been overclocked.

This idea is stupid. If they want to cut down on RMA due to overclockers either take the overclocking feature out the drivers, lock the speeds in the bios (al-la Asus' funny 6800s) or create a loging device that will let them tell if the chip has been run higer than warrented.

It's not for the end-users - it's for the AIB's who make the cards. This is to stop people like XFX and BFG overclocking the cards out of the factory

Nope, the Enquirer is a tabloid, the Inquirer just has an unfortunate name and tends to report every single rumor rather than just sticking to fact, although they do say they can't be sure of the rumor most of the time.

The Inq isn't that bad: quite a lot of the more outlandish stories do appear sooner or later

But it still screws the end-users. Doesn't really matter IMO because if they do something like that then the users will make new BIOSes and crack anything that has to do with them not being able to be clocked.

Would nv really go to that extent? I certainly hope not, that would be beyond disappointing.
