Rates are a little known, yet very important part of playing CS:S online. They govern
the rate at which your computer sends and receives data from the server, obviously
the higher the better. For the OC3D server, as it is 66 tick, rates need to be fairly
high. Many people however have rates set far too low. This makes it extremely hard to
hit others / be hit by others and generally makes the game unfair. You will often see me telling
people with rates of 3500 30 20 to fix it, unfortunately its very rare that they know
how. So here is a quick rundown on what to do.
First you must enable the Developer Console. To do this, run CS:S go to
Options>
Keyboard>
Advanced>
tick 'Enable Developer Console (~)' >
Apply
Now press the tide key (button below Esc and above Tab). This should bring up something
that looks like this:
Here you can input commands. You will need to use three seperate commands to apply the appropriate
changes. To do so, type the following exactly as it is typed here:
rate 20000
<press enter>
cl_updaterate 100
<press enter>
cl_cmdrate 100
<press enter>
You should be left with a screen that looks like this:
For 66 Tick servers you can replace the 100 with 66 and visa versa. Secondly, if you are
on a slow internet connection, ie 56K you may find you need to lower the rate number to below
20000. Any problems with this please feel free to PM me.
Edit: Thought i would add some useful links for those who wish to dabble with some more commands
