New AMD Stock Heatsink Tested - Results are in!

Some of you may not know, but recently has changed from their all-aluminum crap cooler to a new design that includes a solid copper base w/ 4 heatpipes. Mounted on top of the new heatsink is a quality Delta fan.

Madshrimps decided to put this cooler to the test against a Thermalright XP-90 to see how it would fair up against the king of 82/90mm heatsinks. Surprisingly the new AMD heatsink performs just as well and even a degreee or two BETTER!

Ok so you have to give some mad props for this move. They've included a heatsink with their processors which rival that of a $40+ 3rd party "enthusiast" heatsink at no additional charge to the customer. SMART! If I were planning on aircooling and just getting in to the overclocking / performance computing world I'd be so happy to know that the heatsink that came stock with my CPU was top notch and didn't need to be upgraded to allow some decent "on-air" overclocks.

Let's have a look at a few pix and charts, shall we?

Here's the new stock heatsink:

The new heatsink allows for an easy swap to a higher CFM fan if desired, which would more than likely increase it's performance capacity even more!

Here's how this new cooler performs against an XP-90:

Temps at 2.4ghz were taken @ 1.35vcore and 2.6ghz were taken @ 1.525vcore.

Big ups to for making one of the smartest moves they possibly could... Thanks guys!

Is the fan still a noisy SOB like the AMD ones used to be?
