Recently got back into the game. Such a high learning curve but man it's rewarding once you figure things out

Amazing. Its probably the best sandbox ive ever experienced.
Currently heading to the meene system to start the guardians quest which will have me searching ancient ruins on long abandoned planets in the dark

I've just got back into it myself. I'm working on Federal Navy rank so I can finally buy a Corvette.
I recently helped convert a console lover of the game to PC too, so I've been winging up and flying fighters for the first time too.

Never tried it but I'm sure a lot of people do it. You can use a controller if you want and then use the keyboard for extra functions. You can swap on the fly between them without issue.

pretty much this. The controllers can all be used simultaneously so controller with keybinds is a good option. Its how I started before I went HOTAS literally 2 days later from enjoying it so much.
