Alternatives for wired internet

Are there nowadays excellent WiFi substitutes for wired Internet but not in the form of a motherboard or add in card?

Netgear A6210 WIFI USB 3.0 ADAPTER WLAN Adapter perhaps?

I have exactly this one in my new place until I get some cables run. It works well for gaming and video and anything else I throw at it.

My internet speed is slower than the device speed however I do have to reset it from time to time. Max I can download is about 5MB/s so can't test beyond that sorry.

If I'm using PLEX to watch a movie from my PC in the spare room, via the router in my dining room to my TV in the lounge (all wireless connections) then I can get some buffering issues. I haven't tested it but I'd put this down more to the actual routers capacity rather than the wifi adapter on the PC. *Edit - only when watching 1080 or 4K content. 720p works fine but looks potato.

4K Netflix streams fine to the TV but other devices slow down when I do so yeah Router is the likely culprit.

Unless you're into uber-competitive gaming and have a good router then I don't think you'd have any issues.

Thanks man for the quick response and elaborate at that! My PC is, in a direct line, 3m from the router and it's a good one. I just use it for non competitive gaming, normal internet stuff.

How do you reset it?

I unplug it and put it back in.

I have a pretty old motherboard (Z77) and the adapter only really likes two USB 3 ports so I leave it plugged in to the front panel. I have the same issue with my X52 flight stick so I'm guessing it's a peculiarity of my setup.

If I use the rear USB 3 it glitches out more often. In saying this - it's pretty solid and I only have to reset every few weeks (front panel) or maybe once a week (rear US

My PC is on 24/7. I could investigate further depending on which controller is powering which port but I really don't see the need.

Also - the cat likes to chew it so it's pretty robust.

Edit: awesome cat you've got there! I had one follow me today - often strange cats follow me around lol
