I haven't had a tooth pulled in years, but I have had 5 root canals. And one of my teeth is about 75% filling, 25% tooth. Gotta keep those chompers as long as possible!

By living in the USA for 9 years with no dental plan.

When I say biting I mean biting. Teeth against teeth. First they crack, then once they do that they start getting brittle etc. I have a mouth guard but I never use it. I guess it was my way of self harming, because it hurt. And the more I did it the more it hurt. I guess the pain takes my thoughts away from bad stuff.

I had one root canal, ended up coming out two years later. I would rather have another 13 teeth pulled and go through all of the broken jaw shards coming out of my gums for three months than have another root canal.

Damn, that's some bad dental work! I've never had any issues with mine. Maybe I got lucky and snagged a good dentist.

Wasn't their fault tbh. He fixed it, I broke it again by clenching onto it. I've always been a biter. When I was a kid I used to bite on my blanket really hard etc. It's just habitual really.

I don't mind. I still have a few I can eat anything I want with.

I do hate my dentist now though (well, if I have not been struck off). Firstly every time I went there was a 2 hour wait and then I always got a different dentist, then when I did get seen they did shoddy work. The guy who pulled all of my teeth was amazing. Until I had him I used to freak out. Like really freak out. They put me under once (local) and I punched the nurse in the face. I came around and had no idea what had happened. But the guy I had at my last dentist was incredible. I actually used to look forward to going, because I had been in so much pain for so long.

Trust, man. THE most important thing with any doctor or dentist, especially for me.

Edit. The root canal was the last job that dentist did. Then I met my wife and we moved districts so I could not go and use the same dentist.. The problem for me was the smell. It almost made me freak the heck out and start swinging. That horrible burning smell. And I could feel it, too. Like I said, worse than all of the extractions, including the one where he split my lip with the lifters (things used to pull out wisdom teeth, kinda like levers).

I have about three teeth that aren't root filled, pulled or Crowned. I have a bridge and a partial denture.
It's the western diet - high in sugar (soft drink and 10+ cups a day of coffee with sugar did most of mine) , and quite a few impacts from playing hockey over the last 35 years including a broken jaw. Add in a couple of bike crashes and there you go. Nothing much left.

Super expensive but get a root filling or crown if you can. Much better than pulling it both for your health and the rest of your teeth. Once you pull one, there's more work being shared by the others and it cascades the more you have out. Obviously you can get a denture or partial.

In Australia dentists can write prescriptions for antibiotics etc and can pull your tooth if they see fit. No need for a referral unless it's for wisdom teeth, even then they can do them in the chair if they're not too bad.
