ASUS Unleashes ROG Rampage II Extreme

While I'd give my right arm to have one of these on my bench table, IMO there's just too much crap on there for a 24/7 board.

Kudos to Asus for targeting the extreme community again, but I expect the lesser of the range will end up more practical.

So what chipset does it use? It only says "the latest Intel chipset", does that mean the x58?

Yep, your right with X58 (I expect). 3 ram slots gives it away.

Yeah you can see it on the box:

While I'd like one along with a Core i7 CPU (merely to run Linux on 8 threads), I've spent waaay too much money on computer hardware in the last 2 years to justify shelling out again...

3 per channel, jeze ppl these days -_-

Haha...

I'd rather wait for the tick... or is it tock??? Part of the i7 development stage. The tech would be smaller, cooler, faster, and hopefully more refined, and the boards may just be able to utilise DDR3 above v1.65 without nuking the i7 chip!

Oh yeah and i just spent two and half thousand queenies on a brand new rig!!!
