All the ram is 'on-chip' so no backplate needed

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power, and it simply is how much heat a component produces or how much power it consumes.

AMD have lowered the TDP drastically by reducing clock speeds, moving the GPU to a much more efficient lower clocked state.

Typically when you increase clock speeds you get diminishing returns when it comes to power consumption, hence why more efficient models of CPUs and GPUs tend to be running at lower clocks.

From what I can see from leaked information AMD R9 Nano's clock speed fluctuates to maintain a low TDP, with a max clock speed of 1000MHz.

This is a simple guess, but with this being at a similar size to Nvidia's competing GTX 970 for MATX powerhouse I imagine that AMD wins by a margin of 20-30% or so, which is awesome for AMD.

Cool, thanks for that nice explanation bud

So this, the AMD R9 Nano, will be the "direct" competitior to Nvidia's GTX 970?...

Closer to the 980 in reality judging from various bits of info floating around.

Ohhh nice one, tasty ... Does anyone perhaps know if this will be like the Titan of Nvidia or will it come with custom PCBs and custom coolers?. Would be nice to have this with a semi passive cooler

it will have performance which is higher than the R9 390X and similar to the GTX 980, at least is recent estimates are accurate.

I compared it to the GTX 970 as it is the most powerful Nvidia GPU of that form factor.
