Problems with my rig

Hi !

I have had this problem since i built my rig and i can't find any answers on google. So my problem is that my computer crashes once in a while but only if i have played games. It never crashes during gaming but only when i have closed the game and start browsing web. When my computer crashes i get this weird stripy screen (i will add pictures if it happens again). After that i just restart and everything is okay again.

I have been monitoring my cpu and gpu temps and they stay in normal temperatures.

I have not clocked or done any modifications to my build, just usual parts and usual clocks.

Here are the parts i use:
Video: Sapphire Hd radeon 6870
Cpu: Intel core i5-2500 @3.30ghz
mb: Gigabyte PA65-UD3-B3
Power: Chieftec CFT-650-14CS
Hdd: 500 gb wd
Memory: 4 gigs (don't remember the company)

Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks !

First of all welcome to the forums.

While in game do you see any artifacts (triangles/weird shapes that shouldn't be there)? You did say you see a 'stripy screen' when your computer crashes. It seems as if the GPU is having issues when going back to idle from load.

Do you know how many Amps are on the 12V rail for the PSU? The wattage certainly is enough, but it is possible that it may not have enough amperage to power all of your components.

What you can do first, is make sure the PCI cables are secure on the GPU and make sure it's mounted properly on the PCI-E slot. Ignore, if you have already checked all of the connections.

The problem might be with memory (or lack of it). If you have programs open in the background and run games on top you may be running out of memory as I usually use more than 4GB on instances like that. Do you get any kind of memory error before the computer crashes or is it instant?

No, i don't see any artifacts everything runs normal. Until i close the game and do other things.

No i don't know but how can i check it ?? Do i need to use ampmeter ??

I'll open my computer up someday soon !

It is instant. And at first when i get the stripy screen the sound will be normal but after 2 seconds or so it'll start to repeat stuff.

There should be a sticker on the PSU showing how much Amps it provides on the 12V rail. You should open your rig immediately and check all connections. Don't say "I'll open it up someday soon."

Did you stress test your CPU and GPU to make sure they were stable? I know everything is stock, but you can never be too careful.

Maybe run IBT (Intel Burn Test) on the maximum preset. Do the minimum of 5 runs.

Run the Heaven Benchmark for the graphics card and post back the results for both.

it sounds reminiscent of an amd driver issue, not switching back from game mode properly.

i would consider doing a complete amd driver uninstall / reinstall (and making sure you have the latest drivers obviously)
