Question Planned Summer build (advice needed)

Hello.

After building two systems recently on behalf of my friends I have decided to come up with a new system for myself as the Dull Uninspiron is not exactly a gleaming beacon of technology and power. I'm going to be using this system for gaming, specifically Star Citizen (https://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/ for those who haven't heard of it),Arma 3 and GTA V.

The following list is a first draft of sorts:

CPU: AMD fx8320 (probably will do an overclock on it, nothing too big)
CPU cooler: either a 212 EVO or a Enermax ETS-T40-VD
Memory:8 GB Corsair vengeance 1866mhz in Red (eventually will upgrade to 16gb if ever deemed nessasary)
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 ATX
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1tb
SSD: Crucial M4 128gb
PSU: Corsair T650 M
Case:Enermax Ostrog GT (Not found many reviews about it but Ostrog do tend to make very good cases from what I have heard)
GPU: 2x xfx 7870 1GHz core edition (already have one, so why not have another)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
oh, and a large amount of fans and a fan controller. I'm leaning towards Enermax or Corsair fans.

any advice is welcome .

I'd rather get a 3570k, atm AMD cpus aren't very good, check out Tom's video for details:

For the mainboard I'd get a MSI Z77 GD45.
The Enermax case you chose looks very cheap, I'd rather get something from CM's HAF series.

I see your point about the case but trust me on this when I say I have much, much, much worse. The main issue I have with going for the 3750k is that the price difference between it and the 8320 is not justified by the extra cost. I've seen the gaming benchmarks and the majourity of them do point that their is a 10 fps+ difference. I'd go for intel if this build wasn't just for gaming.

The AMD CPU will be completely fine for gaming.
There won't be much of a difference.

Not sure if the 1866 RAM is necessary though

ah right, yeah I see your point Cru3l. I'll stick to the ram I have in my current set up
*update* changed my mind on the cooler and case.
I'm thinking about getting a h70 and a Haf xb instead as I already have most of the money I was going to spend on a new build anyway

For the extra £25 you could get the i5-3570k (oem, processor only) and z77x-D3H, I haven't searched aria or google shopping etc..... (this CPU mobo combo cost me £240 about 5 weeks ago... having a quick search on E to the BAY, the 990fx extreme3 + 8320 comes in aroud £225)

Seeing as you are going aftermarket cooling, the stock intel one is a waste buying.

Obviously it depends on how tight budget is, but seeing as potentially going for CFx youll thank yourself if you consider the intel route.

If not, maybe sell your 7870 and get the 7970, we all should know that in most cases 1 card is better than 2...for heat, noise, not to mention some games not supporting CFx.

I should've mentioned I am going to get another monitor in the near future sorry so dual 7870s will do me fine (yes I know in terms of temperature 1 is better than 2).
I can get an 8320 (off Aria) for 125.94(http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...urce=skinflint), the mobo off amazon for 86.39 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005POPQZA/?tag=pcp0f-21) bringing it to 212.33. I'm amazed its more pricey on ebay really :P.

Oh and in terms of crossfire you'll find both a 8350 (practically identical to a 8320) and a 3570k are neck and neck in terms of performance. They don't do so well in older games however but considering the oldest games I play on both have sequels coming out this year (Arma3 -hopefully- GTA V) I think I am set
thanks anyway

Under £215 for a mobo + CPU. you can't go wrong really.

Ive noticed in the last few months, that fleabay is is getting more expensive than website retailers, but only searched there for a rough price anyway,
When I put my Intel Rig together, I think the only thing that was bought from ebay was an 8pin to 4+4pin extension cable for the CPU PWR cable and the OEM processor.

dual monitors with dual 7870's paired with a 8320 CPU, will work wonders,

I'm sure you know but 600w + 4x 6pin PCIe connectors are required for the CFx setup.
From that add 25% to give your PSU breathing room and allow for overclocks and headroom for upgrades....
I'd say look at a 750w or maybe 700w

yeah seems a good idea about the PSU. I guess I'll go for something by corsair or antec.

Its a shame about ebay, personally I'd never get important parts for desktops off it but it used to be an absolute bargain (I got my laptop off ebay fully recon'd and extra ram for around £100 with windows 7) but now identical laptops appear to be going for more.

anyway back on subject I think I'll get this psu

Saying an i5 and an FX 83xx are "virtually identical" is incorrect. It entirely depends upon which games are being played and whether they support more than 4 cores.

Star citizen is based on CryEngine 3 which has good multithreaded support.
GTA V is based on an updated RAGE engine but I have no idea how many cores it will support.
ARMA 3 supports multiple threads (I've seen it done with a hack at least).

The trend to use more cores will continue so the FX should be fine.

Going with a second 7870 is an OK option. There will be times when you won't get it working (or support will have to be patched in at a later date) so be aware that you may end up relying on a single 7870 at times.
