Looks great - way too cold for cycling atm, the wind is just so biting...

Three days ago I would have disagreed but then 4c and today 1c. Yeah, I draw the line right about there.

I am now about to build bike number 6. A proper, 1980s freestyle bike. One of the best, actually. Will post about that a bit later today

Blimey, I have a ton to update huh? Obviously I have not been riding because the weather has been total arse. It's finally gotten a bit sunny over the past few days, but due to the lack of cloud cover it's also balls freezing. I originally built my 1987 Hutch Exel like this.

Which was a Christmas present to myself (my first 80s freestyle bike into the collection) but I hated it. I figured going with pink parts would be 80s, but then when it was done I felt stupid. So, not to be defeated I cracked some spare parts out of the cupboard and....

Badass. Just need to repaint the pegs I have and I will have some fun on that come spring time.

Also over Christmas I have been buying parts for my cherished GT Speed Series. I originally built it on the cheap (around £400, if that) and have been buying parts over Christmas and so on. This is how it was..

Most of it was high end but the wheels were cheap at less than £40. They are by no means bad (Alex Y22 double wall deep dish rims on decent alloy hubs) but they were not the killer wheelset this bike deserves. So I spent weeks looking and finally found these for £100 inc for the pair.

Now let me explain what I mean by "killer" wheel set. BMX parts are generally quite cheap. However, going to the top end is quite the opposite. Let me break down what they would cost.

Rear rim - Proper Bike Co (Carlo Griggs) £70
Rear hub - Salt + Trapez (named so because you can flip the pawls and put your crank on the left) - £135

Front rim - Shadow Orbis - £70
Front hub - Spotlight Superstar - £125.

And then of course you add the spoke prices and cost to build.. Yeah, very not cheap. So the price I got them for was amazing. Only the rear hub was used (but refurbed) the rest was all NOS. Only one problem, they are micro drive. Firstly I bought these for them.

And these bar ends, which cost too much but are drop dead gorgeous.

Snafu cable.

And so on. I bought this 25t sprocket originally.

But the chain rubbed the frame when you pedalled backward. So I bought a 30t Proper Bike Co in copper finish to match the decal stroke.

Is how it sits. It just needs air in the tyres and so on. However, then I saw these for sale.

And well, you know how it goes lol. I had to have them.

Glad to see you're keeping busy, and get riding those upgrades. Bought myself a new wheelset for my cyclocross bike over xmas. Only cheap at £100, but enables me to have a slick wheelset & a knobbly one, depending on what I feel like riding.
