No Post on new Msi Z97 Gaming 3

Hi All

I've been trying to get this new Msi Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard to work in my daughters pc for days. It will not post, no matter what I try to do, to find the issue & I cannot get into the bios.

You just get a blank black screen on boot up & the monitor states no signal, also there are no beeps on the motherboard speaker, I put on the board either, when the the system powers on with everything connected, with what looks & sounds like a fully working system, with fans going, ssd & hard drive working (indicator flashing on front pc when power on) & so on.

I've tried all the things listed below to try find the issue with the board :-

Checked 8 pin cpu plug seated correctly
Checked 24 pin plug seated correctly
Made sure GPU seated and powered
Tried to get a signal though the graphics card and the on board
Tried VGA, HDMI & Dvi cables
Different monitor
No ram = 3 beeps
2 sticks of ram = no beeps
1 stick of ram = no beeps
Ram in slots 2-4 & 1 & 3 = no beeps
Reseated the cpu & cooler
Checked socket for bent pins
Made sure the fans for the cpu cooler connected
Went round the system checking all cables for hard drives fans and such connected.
Reset CMOS via the jumper
Reset CMOS via the battery removal

System spec

I5-4690k
8gb Corsaire Vengence LLP 1600mhz
Msi Z97 Gaming 3
Coolermaster 212+ cooler
Be quite power zone 850w power supply
Gigabyte R9 280x 4gb Windforce
60gb ssd
2tb hard drive
Windows 10

A bit of background leading up to the problem

This was a working system before the last motherboard Gigabyte z97 d3h stopped been able to get into the bios (corrupted bios, seems common board problem), when the Corsair H60 I was using in the system pump failed & overheated the cpu to 90°c +, so I fitted the Coolermaster 212+ & the system worked, but bios issue still remained.

So I got a this new Msi motherboard, off Amazon. Had this bios problem with the Gigabyte board before so got a replacement, but gone with the Msi board this time.

Any advise people can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Just try and move the graphics card down one slot incase its a dead gpu lane and try and see if you get a signal that way also have you checked the gpu in another system and does it work if you get nothing from that then return the board for a replacement tell them it was a DOA

I would actually remove the GPU first and try the onboard vga. Just plug a hdmi cable straight into the motherboard.

After that (if it fails) try what Excalabur has suggested. When troubleshooting, its always good to remove absolutely everything that isnt necessary and work from there. I'm talking fans too (including CPU cooling if possible).

edit* I know you say you tried onboard video, but did you try it with the GPU removed?

Thanks for your reply Excalabur50 & Warchild.

I've tried the other gpu slot and its still not working, also I have tried with the gpu removed and with it in, while tying to get the onboard to work, but having no either luck.

I have my sons 1150 socket pc, maybe I could try the cpu on his pc and see if it still works and not been fried.

So I've tried the i5 in my sons pc and it works fine.

I've also noticed that on the Msi board the audio boost area is not lighting up correctly, only half of it is.

Working

Mine, the light shows going into the first capacitor at the top of the audio boost chip, then nothing

I suspect it's a dead board and it's time to RMA it

Look at the circuit lanes leading to the audio chip. I suspect you damaged one accidentally when installing the GPU, its very easy to gently tap the mobo with the GPU bracket while installing it and just chipping one of the circuit lanes.

I've checked those circuit lanes around the audio chip and I've not seen anything. Think I'm going to have to RMA it.
