Any advice on improving this gaming build?

Can anyone give me any pointers to maybe increase the value for money on this build or improve it in any way whilst keeping the price fairly similar to what it already is? I'm getting my case from a friend, by the way.

Cheers!

Well ehm... a case could be convenient?
Also, see if you can find 1600MHz RAM with a CAS Latency of 9. 10 is a bit high for 1600MHz RAM tbh. Do you really need 2TB of storage?

Also please answer these questions:

• What will you be using this rig for?
• If gaming, what resolution will you be playing at?
• Will you be overclocking?
• Do you need a full build or will you be reusing some old parts?

please change to a piledriver processor, you will save power and gain performance.

If you can go for the fx 6300, its worth the extra £15. two more cores, less heat output and lower power consumption

the fx4130 doesn't have the best performance, go for the fx6300 as it has a big boost in performance over the 4130 ands would enable you to make full use of the 660. Also, go for an aftermarket cpu cooler, as the stock AMD one is awful. This would be your best bet. If you can't get the cooler straight away, make sure to get one at a later date as the 6300's stock cooler isn't really very effective and is quite noisy.

I said that I'm getting my case separately. The rig is for gaming, on a 1920x1080 monitor. I won't be overclocking, and it's a full from-scratch build, yes.

I expected my processor wouldn't be the best value for money. What aftermarket cooler would you recommend?

And I may not need 2TB of storage, but I'm guilty of filling up my drives pretty quick and I figured I'll eventually need a 2nd TB anyway, so why not. How much difference does a higher latency make?

Sorry I just realized you linked me to a cooler, thanks.

Oh my bad, I missed that part. What case is it exactly? What games will you be playing?

The underlined word in his post is clickable and leads to this:

I can do nothing but agree with this suggestion. Granted it's a bit on the expensive side for a budget build, it's the absolute best cooler for the money.

No problem.

I think the rest of your build will be fine . Just out of interest, what case are you getting from your friend?

I'll be playing indie games, and shooters such as Battlefield, Counter-Strike, GTA, Crysis and just generally anything else that peaks my interest. The case is a BitFenix Colossus, and it's costing me only £30 I think, so that's good.

I know haha! Great, the price is a bit higher than I first wanted with the new CPU and the cooler, £499.79. After a bit of research, you guys are right though. I'll buy the items one or two at a time and I'll be able to afford it that way. Cheers for the assistance guys!
