The rumours about the RX Vega being 2+ months away are false

The recent rumours that AMD's RX Vega releasing 2+ months after the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition are false. Here is what actually was said at AMD's recent webcast.

Technically they aren't wrong. Frontier edition isn't for gaming and is a month and a half away. If they released the gaming GPUs after, it would be closer to 2 months maybe more

No doubt about it AMD is sending conflicting messages about Vega. And this type of mishandling is extending to other AMD Product Launches. Lisa Su may be a brilliant engineering mind but she doesn't come across as possessing the juice to whip people in line.

The only things I have seen so far that I believe are...

Some one posts an order form online that was seen from a company who sells custom PCBS. Just two were ordered by AMD. This was oo, last September?

Raja posts on Twitter saying "In Taiwan talking about Vega !!" or something/somewhere like that. People reply to his tweet, he replies "Vega is a long way off".

We see a rig with what is apparently a Vega card in it. It has a really odd PCB with an extension on the back with a USB 3 connector in shrouded in duct tape.

AMD post the Vega logo at random intervals.

AMD announce the Frontier card.

Other than that lot? everything else you have probably read is bull toffee. Going on the past? AMD released Fury X (their last big card) in the summer, but it wasn't available until September and even then OCUK only had 9 of each make/variant in stock and they moved very, very slowly.

The only rumour lately that I might even possibly believe is that there are supply issues. This makes sense, because they had the same issues with Fury X. Mind you, even that might be BS.

I quote Kevin Bloody Wilson..

"Quite often I get to thinking, as I get around a bit, that half of what you read is bull and the other half's all s**t"

I bought my ASUS Fury Strix in September of 2015, a non-reference GPU, from OCUK. The Fury line was widely available in the UK weeks before that time. I wouldn't have bought the GPU unless it was available en mass.

I don't remember the specific dates tbh mate. I mean, it was almost two years ago.

I remember going away on a holiday in May. It was almost June. Was only for a week. During that week Nvidia announced and released and stocked the 980Ti. People couldn't believe it was only £550 or whatever it was. A few days later (now we are now heading into June) AMD announce Fury X @ £529. A few weeks later pre orders appeared. Then my mate Greg orders one from Scam, gets it a few days later. Then there are none. No pre orders no cards. AMD blame the interposer (SIC possibly).

Around September time stock finally arrives, but is severely limited in numbers. As I said before, 9 cards from each Manu (so 9 XFX, 9 Giga etc). They don't even sell out. Some of them cling on to like 2/3 for months because every one already bought the 980Ti which turned out to be the correct decision.

The only reason I remember is because I checked my old receipts to see how long I've had my current GPU and it was early September 2015. When I bought the GPU, there were 10+ in stock. Whatever the case, Fury really sold poorly. I barely see anyone with Fury's of any kind these days.

Yup totally. I know a load of people who have them now, but they're not really for showing off so they don't bother haha. I think they all ended up heavily discounted and sold for cheaps.

I hope Vega is not the same sort of debacle tbh. Really hope they have their crap together for this one.

I am kinda on the fence now with Vega. With the announcement of starting to use Infinity fabric in GPU's, and the possibility we could see that in Navi. Vega driver development could take a back seat to the pretty quickly, just like Fury.
