DIRT 5 is coming to PC this October

Project Cars, we ran monthly hotlap challenges. I'm currently revising it for Project Cars 2.

Racing games are going off the list of games, I look at lately due to one thing and one thing only.

Realism, it is the one thing that has killed racing games for me.

I prefer the old Need For Speed Undergrounds, Carbon and Most Wanted (Original) and Undercover, if they remade them with updated graphics but kept the gameplay the same I would be happy.

Maybe one day a developer will understand that not everyone wants a simulator in a racing game, and just wants to have a laugh and doesn't care about whether a car can possibly get round a 90 degree corner at 150mph+ or hit a wall doing 200mph fly around in the air, land and carry on going.

As a TrackManiac and someone who played pretty much every NFS until Shift 2 I get what you mean, but when you manage some dumb antics in a sim, it in a way carries more weight as it's semi-believable.

Have you raced with a wheel? A second hand DFGT or something similar might sway your opinion to favour sims, they are great fun as well but not having force feedback takes away a lot.

Understand your point, but I liked both. Arcade and also realism.

In the day we had NFS U and U2 but also Colin Mcrae or WRC rally for realism etc. Both genres were great.

As far as Underground goes.. I actually didnt mind NFS Heat. I think its as close as you can get right now. But I think if they made a new underground, we would find it underwhelming because our expectations on content and graphics are much higher.

U and U2 had very little story, average graphics at best. but it broke the mould of racing and modding. Plus we always tried to recreate our favourite fast and furious cars, so there was some inspiration there. I really don't think underground has any place in todays community as much as I would love to have it there.

Have you tried Forza Horizon 4? I think that manages to bridge a nice gap between arcade fun and somewhat realistic physics, sort of has a NFSU/2 feel in terms of activities, the open world and the upgrades. To be honest my favourite "arcade driving experience" of late besides that is GTA V.

FH4 is awesome and cheap to try as it's included in game pass. The car variety and tuning is unparalleled, I'm just a bit miffed that I can't manage to build competitive RWD cars.

Yeah the Peformance Index balancing in FH4 heavily favours AWD, when you're doing ~3 lap races the vehicles launch is a much bigger influence than is accounted for, similarly the gains in wet or mixed conditions aren't really factored in, though you can put an AWD kit on then swing 80% of the power to the rears to get close.

Never tried a wheel, and as much as I know they are great for racing games I really do not like sims or realistic racers.

In terms of Forza I have either Horizons 3 or Horizons 4 on the xbox and to play it on the PC it means using the MS Store which I would rather not, but I may look some of the games on there as I currently have Game Pass Ultimate for free thank's to my purchase of a AMD CPU, and I also used the code from my brother in laws as well since he wasn't going to use it.

I honestly still think you just need to try racing with a wheel, it's a revolution (:D). But understandable if you don't want to test drive one with your own wallet. And MS Store gets out of your way after installing, I don't really see a reason to avoid it with W10.

If he only plays arcade the wheel will have a negative impact. It was project cars that won me over though. One try of the 920 and I was hooked and setting some top level hotlaps globally :D
