Arctic Cooling confirms cooler compatibility with AMD's Radeon RX 5700 series

Would be cool to see the results before we finally get the aftermarket cards.

Timmy Joe showed off an RX 5700 with a Visiontek R9 390 cooler on it, apparently R9 290/390 coolers are mostly compatible with the RX 5700 (and presumably the 5700 XT as well).

He didn't do any games benchmarks just some Firestrike testing.

Unchanged since 2008.

God it's fugly. It fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Come on Arctic at least bloody try.

They were doing some interesting things on air back in the day. It might not look pretty, but I would bet money it works, and performs far better than any OEM AMD cooler. Those are nothing but junk, even the supposedly "high quality" one on the Radeon VII.

Bloody heavy too at nearly a kilo. wouldn't recommend moving your system with one of these installed.

Its cheap and it works. If you bought this in 2008 you will still have a very competitive cooler with aftermarket designs plus it would have easily paid for itself as you would only ever need reference design cards as you already got a cooler.

No point in changing what works. Function over form.

It's not cheap. It's usually £50 or more and then you needed VRM plates to fit your card.

It works? I guess so, but, this isn't 2008 where you had a blue mobo with white orange and green slots on it. People care about how their PC looks now as well.

All they needed was a more modern shroud, with black fans not white ones. That's very assumptive that every one has a PC with white in it. Whereas I can pretty much guarantee that every one has a PC with at least some black in it.

See? the difference that makes? it shows your users you at least care about the products you're bashing out.

The only company who truly don't care, and have done well because of it, is Noctua. Yet even they have now made covers and etc to colour code to a PC.

You can have your opinion. Don't really care because it's not relevant. You don't want it fine but others might already have it and this is all useful for them. It's function over form and you don't have to like it. This lets those people save money because everything you need is included and reusable.
Not like they need to change it, you wouldn't buy it anyway. So what's the point in making it conform to your type of persons need? There isn't one.
