Nvidia job listing hints at future consoles with DLSS 2.0 support - A Nintendo Switch

'AI technologies for gaming consoles' and 'DLSS 2.0' in the same job listing.

Read more about the Nvidia Tegra job listing that reference future consoles and DLSS 2.0.

Hmmm,

Might be for Orin, which may be too powerful for a handhled console (targeted 65watts to achieve performance quota) but these are going to be using Ampere cores.

Hope not. They should go back to making ACTUAL consoles as well as handhelds like the Switch.

IMO, Nintendo should stick to handhelds, they have the monopoly on that and they do really well in those markets. I think they should do a SEGA though and start selling there IP on other consoles, Who doesn't want Mario Kart and Super smash bro's on PS or XBOX (or PC, but im really clutching at straws here) and I think they'd make a killing that way. Nintendo only do so well on consoles due to holding these IP's exclusively on their console, I'd hope, that Pokémon Go would have taught them that there is a bigger demand for their games than their mediocre consoles. Eventually, the world won't want to pay an extra Ł300 so that they can play pokemon on what is essentially a slightly beefed up tablet with a controller

I like how Nintendo isn't joining others with their "PC, but with sofa OS" consoles. And their emphasis on responsiveness is very welcome as well.

While I'd say Nintendo has never had a bad console primarily because they've never had a main console(Not counting the Virtual Boy and stuff) that didn't have a good range of amazing games, they know they can't rely on their games alone to drive console sales or they'd get another commercial flop like the Wii U.

In their potentially dying breaths they took a huge risk and carved out a new niche, and hoped that the idea of home console level gaming(In terms of the type, genres and range of games) that you can take on the go would drive hardware sales in and of itself, and its worked, so it makes sense for them to double down on this and push the envelope next time now they actually have some money and stability (Switch used an off-the-shelf-Tegra to minimise risk with their near dismal financial situation at the time), if only to keep up with the bells and whistles of the next home console gen.

Wii U was a commercial flop, but not a critical flop in terms of how it/its games reviewed, had some great titles (With many ofc later being re-released in essentially identical form for the Switch) including what many consider to be the GOAT (BoTW, albeit that was end of life). Wii U's problems were heavily down to the shocking marketing and ensuing confusion that surrounded its launch rather than any major issues with the device itself.
