Users of AMD 400-series AM4 motherboards will support Ryzen 5000 CPUs in January 2021

Don't expect 400-series motherboards to support Zen 3 at launch.

Read more about Zen 3 support coming to ZX470 and B450 in early 2021.

In fairness Lisa did state this.

It's fair enough really. Get sales of boards up for those with no patience, then every one else gets them early next year. By which time stock should be higher etc.

no new boards

I seriously doubt there will be any new boards for this cpu series; AMD plan to move to a new socket which would mean no upgrade path from a new motherboard....and the whining that would result would be heard from space.

Why? other than a money grab. The new CPU is a drop in replacement.

It's for new boards people haven't bought yet. I doubt it will offer any features, just a refresh.

i guess he meant boards with a new chipset (aka x670).
asus just brings updated versions of older designs with the b550 and x570 chipsets.

X670 will probably be for the next 5nm Zen with DDR5 and PCIE 5.0.

B550 and X570 are the chipsets for Zen 3.

IE the next Zen will be a board and RAM change.
