Intel vulnerable again?

Hey guys,

So I just came across this video and what this thread is regarding starts at 2:00, basically a new form of stuff with Intel CPU that apparently by passes your antivirus?...

And apparently this vulnerability was discovered by the same person who discovered "Spectrum".

So rather than creating a whole new thread, I'm posting in this one, since it's under the same subject basically.

My friend has asked me regarding all of this Intel CPU stuff and I'm not entirely sure about all of it myself, so therefore I'm coming to you guys, if you could explain it. Since I can't quite get it from Google either.

Is it really bad and/or is it something to be concerned about? Is there something important that can be stolen/hacked through al of this? As Dicey mentioned in a PM to me earlier, he basically said that you'd have a better chance of getting hit by an airplane than being affected by this. Which was more than comforting enough to calm one down. But since then new stuff has risen to the surface and now considering that bascially everyone has Intel these days and if this is enough reason to switch to AMD or stay on Intel?

Thanks,
Dawelio

Only worry here is performance hit from the fixes.

A modern computer running a desktop OS has plenty of attack surface already - same rules still apply. Don't run code you don't trust (that includes websites, they have JavaScript) and you'll be fine.

AMD is also vulnerable, though to fewer variations.

This. A couple I have received on Broadwell E have been quite bad, and with one in particular I had to remove it. Apparently it got fixed now though but none of the effects of these patches is documented.
