Gigabyte product codenames confirmed 20GB RTX 3080 and 16GB RTX 3070 plans

I agree.

I consider myself a part of the "PCMR". Yet rarely ever have I been able to afford a system that could ran everything at the highest settings. I never really cared to. It's satisfying playing older games because you can do that but still hit 100 FPS. But even older games with its one superfluous and unoptimised setting crippled certain systems. I can think of a number of titles where the absolute highest settings was 40-60 FPS, and one setting turned down one notch (with no discernible visual compromise) was 90-100 FPS. GTA V, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed are some examples. I didn't sit there in anger because I got shafted by 'Ngreedia' or 'RTG-durrrp'. I just turned the setting down and played the bloody game and stopped taking myself so seriously.

The PCMR encompasses multiple different people. Modders, high refresh rate competitive gamers, streamers, hardware enthusiasts, AAA, they're all part of the PCMR. I've played games at the lowest settings and loved every minute of it, even when I hated it. And I've played games at 20 FPS and loved every minute of it, even when I hated it. But nowadays if I had to pick between 90 FPS with two settings turned down at a price of €500, 90 FPS with all settings turned up to the max for €800, or 60 FPS and settings cranked for €500, I'd choose the first of the three. All three are "PCMR". The reason the PC is the "Master Race" is because you can choose, not because you have a zero compromise system. It isn't just that one thing.

I don't consider myself a part of the PCMR and never did. I like gaming.

Yeah always a bit weird seeing people use the term seriously. It literally uses Nazi terminology to ironically describe the extreme elitist behaviour of some PC gamers. I guess it's been kept alive by teens unaware of the older context or something?

"It was intended to be ironic, to illustrate what I perceived at the time to be an elitist attitude among a certain kind of PC gamer. People who invest in expensive gaming PCs and continually spend money to make sure the tech in their brightly-lit tower cases is up to date. Who actually prefer games that are temperamental to get running and that have complicated keyboard interfaces, just because it discourages new or 'casual' players who will in some way taint the entire community with their presence. I meant it as a dig."

The terminology goes back way way way before nazis, "Nazi" is just an easy to use 1 size fits all shoe bogeyman.

I did however explain some of the terminology to my good friends kid, He's only 13 so had no idea, He's stopped using it since ^_^

In this case specifically Yahtzee does mention it is a reference to the Nazis tho: https://v1.escapistmagazine.com/art...Discussion-Political-Correctness-vs-Language-

(I don't agree with his bit that it's seemingly a good thing for kids to not know the history behind the term Master Race but yeah [And iirc I don't think he does either anymore])

But I suppose that argument only applies if the term 'PC Master Race' were exclusively being used ironically in a mocking context, and it is true that some PC gamers seem to take it worryingly seriously. Wilde makes the point that they may not be fully appreciating the context behind the term. But even that, in it's own way, could be a positive thing. Because the Nazis were dicks, and they don't deserve to have power over our language anymore. If some millennial can honestly use the term 'PC Master Race' for years without even knowing that it's a Nazi reference, then I'd chalk that up as a win. That's how badly you lost, Mr. Hitler - your armies were destroyed, your nasty ideals have been condemned, and now we've taken all your favorite words away. Suck it, Dolfy.

(But yeah, I know the concept has long standing historical origins, in many forms and places, but tbf the modern English use of the term "Master Race" is popularly attributed to coming from "Herrenrasse" which was popularised from a distortion of Nietzsche's "Übermensch" (Which had no reference to racial grounds or similar) by the Nazi's to justify their views on racial hierarchy. )

Back on topic, for people condemning the current 3080 for not having enough vram, that is only valid if that was all that nvidia were offering. But based on the leek that is clearly not the case. You want the best and most current card you pay what the market dictates. The lower specced cards have generally always shipped with lower vram and it's not like they suddenly stopped working

Not going to lie, I've always had this consideration that PCMR is just for try hards that splurge out on new hardware every year without question, and anyone who bought what wasn't considered the "elite" choice - which is mostly AMD - then you're just a peasent who should go back to playing consoles with the rest of the babys. I've never considered Enthusiasts as PCMR because enthusiasts know what they're talking about, they understand why monopolies and new sockets each year is bad for consumers - *cough* Intel - and wouldn't lambast you for choosing differently to them.

Ever since I learned that PCMR originated from Yahtzee, I kinda felt proven right given the context which he uses it.

I've always looked at PCMR as a bit of fun, Nothing more, Heck Terry Crews is the figurehead of PCMR ^_^

**imagine this in a totally condescending humorous voice**

"You have joined the PCMR, Welcome to the superior gaming experience, Long draw distances, Low temperatures, Frame rates so mighty it Hertz so good !"

Also stuff like this :D

Well the problem with groups formed on an ironic notion such as "PC Master Race" is that it will eventually get permeated with individuals who actually think that way.

The concept of the "PC Master Race" was in place well before Yahtzee coined it. I remember seeing PC magazines back in the mid 90's talking about how vast the PC world is. We're talking about PCMR not because it's actually a race of superior individuals. That's just dumb. We're talking about the PC enthusiasts and gamers, people who see the PC as an inherently more powerful and varied way of enjoying their hobbies. If you think you're not part of the PCMR when you spend thousands on your PC and obsess over tiny details, you're missing the point.

When I hear PCMR I can't help but to imagine either a very fat or a very skinny dweeb, sitting on a racing chair with a PC filled with insane RGB fans. And you know why that is? Because it's true. Gaming hardware companies have profited immensely from PCMR lunacy by selling a bunch of naive people overpriced bling that serves no real purpose.

Gaming on any system is supposed to be about games, not about the bling.

I think that when I hear the word "Gamer"
