I don't like the idea of manufacturers locking you into their system with Freesync or G-Sync and then the end user has to lose money by abandoning it.
I don't either. But until AMD bring something to the table that can go into ITX builds with lower power consumption and less heat output I don't really have a choice.

It doesn't quite work like that.. Freesync is simply because the monitor has the correct spec to run it. It is not added it's just either there or it isn't. G-Sync on the other hand is a module you pay for.

I have a "freesync" monitor and two out of the three GPUs connected to it are Nvidia. I don't care and I don't mind because Adaptive Vsync @ 70hz works beautifully for me (as it should, I run very fast GPUs).

But yeah, Freesync merely comes down to the spec of the inputs on your monitor. Hence the name, hence why it's free. The work is done at the GPU end.

Is there another word for Adaptive Vsync? Are you talking about this?

Yup that's it. It's fantastic tbh. They came out with that and then very quickly came up with G-Sync so all of the focus is on that. Which is a shame, because AVS works brilliantly for me. I get no stutters, no tears, no input lag and it's butter smooth.

I think once Nvidia had cracked that they realised that there was money to be made and monopolies to be had in all honesty. Me? I don't care. It works for me every bit as good as G-Sync did.

You just enable it globally and you're G2G man.

As far as supported GPUs goes, on their own site, every GPU up to the 980Ti and Titan X is supported. Not the newer 1000 series lol.

Calling BS on that.

Nvidia banged on and on and on about how incredible AVS was. Then G-Sync comes along and all of a sudden they don't want to talk about AVS any more. No one even so much as mentions it now because it's all about G-Sync $100 per module kerching.
