Folding on a 970 and 5 older AMD cards. I've been toying with the idea that I need a 1080 now that prices have dropped quite a bit. Replacing a 125K PPD card with an 800K PPD card that probably uses less power seems to make a little sense.

Dang, I'm sure your electric bill is crazy. A 1080 could probably replace all those AMD cards and use a lot less power...so I say go for it

Think of the earth! I'd even go a step further and replace your cards 1 for 1 with 1080's. You'd save 6x the power then...right

That depends.

If you were running system 24/7 you would get 7x more points in that time but spend similar W. If you have a target value that you want to achieve you could run them for 1 day and get same amount of points you would get in 7 days with older cards.

But I'm not spending $2500 on 5x 1080s ATM

Fortunately we are on a public utility electricity district so power is much much cheaper than many parts of USA and probably anywhere in Eurpoe.
