Drive configuration OS / Cache

What is recommended: to have: a fast m.2 drive with enough capacity for paging and caching (think of an after effects cache folder and the OS page file), or option 2 - to have a dedicated SSD (on a sata port) for paging and cache coupled with a sata ssd for OS?

Any other thoughts?

Just run the fast m.2 as OS drive. Disable the page file. Or put it on 400 mb for some apps that go wonky without it. There is a guide on formus how to setup your OS for ssd. Do that and enjoy.

Problem is I only have 32gb or RAM and I frequently top it if I run Photoshop and a 3d app or After Effects... speaking of which - caches for these apps often top 20, 30GB each - hence my predicament.

Yeeah you don't need a pagefile, stick a 1GB one somewhere on a fast drive and forget about it. Some games 'require' them for swap-space but you should almost completely ignore the windows recommendations for it.

Set your Adobe scratch discs manually to whatever the fastest drive you have is that doesn't have the OS on it. They work best if not using the OS drive and love RAID arrays too, usually for that kind of work you just dedicate a fast drive to NOTHING but scratch IOPs then leave it alone.
