Greek Court blocks torrent block

A greek court rejected a request made by the Greek CopyRight Protection Assosiation for the ISPs to block every known IP adress that has has been associated with torrenting.

The court justified their desicion with many reasons
  1. The measure was irrational (totally overkill)
  2. Torrents are not only beeing used for pirated copies of music/software/movies but also for distributing open source software (eg GNU licence)
  3. The measure simply wouldn't have been effective because torrent sites usually jump from ip to ip all the time
  4. ALSO such an action would have been breaking the EU law on NET NEUTRALITY (that is beeing protected), and the right that every EU citizen has to be able to access any type of information at will
  5. Last but not least, the court commented, piracy's negative impact on artists is getting smalled day after day. There's no real copy right infringement for their side. The only ones interested in this matter are the producer companies of each respected industry division (music/movies/software etc)

Source

Personal comment: A court ruling is all that is needed to show the way, I'm not saying that piracy is a good thing but at least it would appear that justice doesn't see it the way it used to do a couple of years earlier, which is really interesting. Someone's making comments that burn the already butt-hurt producers (since no real financial impact has been noticed for those companies)

Net neutrality they say. Cameron blocked porn (and ruined Shaun's dreams xD) EU for the win!

Now this is going to unchain some fiery discussions.

Love the gif! The world needs to grow some balls, Korea stopping the film, oh wait.

Greece would be a perfect place to host a site like the piratebay. A justice ruling is what they have and could get behind it, the police is also somewhat slow unless tpb off any of the politicians and they 'speed up' things.

Also, the that happens in Greece once and upon every pre-election period is normal that has been happening since 1900 (or earlier) The state is divided by two, the battle is harsh.

Regarding laws, Greece has one of the most complete constitution and laws that cover almost every topic. The problem is that there are too many laws and some of them never get implemented because people don't know about them.

Freedom of speech is a bit weird in Greece in fact there is a counsil (parliament controlled) that "inspects" the radio and TV. but because internet is behind eu laws (and believe me, greece is a black sheep regarding eu laws, some are completely ignored and we pay fines for doing so) is somewhat protected. I personally haven't heard or read anywhere that a "pirate" has been arrested. However the police is doing a great job against paedophiles as well as anarchist sites (which ok it's not freedom of speech if you call people to get armed and start urban resistance).

Situation is more complicated than a 15 year old girl on her period

So under EU law.. why was Pirate Bay seized? If they support Net Neutrality and torrents being protected, due to everyone's rights, then why would Pirate Bay be the exception rather than the rule like all others?
