The new Corsair "Gaming" logo

So I'm a huge fan of Corsair products and love how they have maintained a clean quality look across their product range.

Recently as i'm sure a lot of you are aware however Corsair have started sub branding some of their products as the "gaming" series along with what people are calling the "tramp stamp" tattoo logo.

Now whilst I appreciate corsair might want to differentiate it's more gaming focused products from products like the obsidian series and so fourth I still feel that the links to gaming and corsair products are so clear that why did they need to come up with an entirely new logo which just looks tacky and makes me think of Saitek Cyborg or other overly naff "gaming" products.

Couldn't they have just added the word gaming rather than a whole new logo they probably paid someone a silly amount to design.

I only say this coz i'm a huge fan of all things Corsair and want them to maintain their image and reputation as a quality enthusiast brand that many of us here at the forums continue to use.

Would love to hear your thoughts guys and gals?

Also I found this on a reddit post which is what inspired me to make this thread

Also from the reddit thread

You pose a good point and I'm not a fan of the Corsair Tramp stamp, should have gone with something subtle like the supercharger badges on range rovers.

EDIT: A quick Photyshop later..

I had a guy add me on facebook totally at random trying to talk me into signing the petition, I refused to do so and told him as a consumer it was the wrong approach to inform Corsair or ever getting anything changed. It's entirely up to them what they do and I don't care but if I don't like it then it will never get my money, there are alternatives.

I'm glad you asked because I stand by what I said to him, ultimately I don't care, I just won't buy it and trust me i'm sitting behind close to £2k of Corsair stuff right now which I bought with my own money, I think that speaks a lot about what I think of their brand. I like what they have done in terms of structure of their product lines, their esports involvement and how they have set up their website. I do not like the execution when it comes to the finished RGB products.

My biggest issue is YELLOW!!!! I like yellow, I like the yellow cases, but WTF is the point in making a 16.8 million colour backlit keyboard and then putting yellow in the logo. It obviously needs to be totally neutral aside the backlights so that it works with everything.

As for the tribal BS it makes no sense, if it actually looked like a pair of swords that would be perfect but it should speak the same clean and sophisticated language as the original Corsair logo. The Corsair logo is timeless, it needs no explanation and a sub-brand should reflect that.

Lastly it looks awful how it's set into a square on the keyboard and not properly contoured.

I won't just pointlessly bash Corsair, if one day any of your employees read this then i'll tell you exactly what you should have done. Simply put only the sails on the keyboard aligned perfectly with the USB cable and placed an LED backlight behind them, and then on the box replaced the Vengeance branding with 'Corsair Gaming' in whatever colour you wanted and then everyone would be happy. Repeat on the mouse and headset and carry on.

I'm fed up of hearing stupid fanboys saying 'Corsair have made a mistake' blah blah. It was their call and they chose to offend their current customers in favor of new ones and fair play if they think it will be profitable.

Edit: i've been thinking about it some more and I think I can see what has happened. So they have the sail logo and identity nailed, perfect and they thought hmmm... gaming peripherals...weapons... we are pirates already..ahhahah SWORDS!

They then sent away a little design team who thought right lets draft a little logo using swords in the same clean and simple language as their existing logo. Unfortunately all that happened was they inadvertently repetitively drew most of the Sikh symbol. Fearing it would look too much like the number plate of an early 2000's Mercedes C-class, they went I know, lets just add some tribal stuff until they don't look like swords any more, hence what we have.

Can't explain the yellow.

Well said JR. Definitely agree with a lot of your points.
You're right, this new branding does probably open them up to a wider audience so may be a good business decision but as people in the redit thread have said. Corsair's logo appeal at least was that it was simple and understated.

It must be said that this new logo wouldn't stop me buying Corsair products at all but I would probably look elsewhere now for my gaming peripherals as I prefer a more mature look

Yeah exactly. And also to me full on RGB crazy pattern stuff is not well suited to the subtle and understated Corsair branding anyway. The current line perfectly reflects what we want them to represent, it's just a shame they never made a mouse which matches the K70 reds. I might get an M65 RGB and mutate an M45 shell onto it.

A corsair is a pirate after all, and the logo looks pretty piratey.
A logo is to fulfill 2 goals,
1. brand name recogition and
2. memorability.

The new logo is a win on both fronts, you recognize it and you remember it and heck you even talk about it to your friends, what could be better?!

As a publicist once said there is no bad publicity, whether you say good things or bad things, the point is that you are saying things about their brand and people will remember it even more. You have fed the beast with your comments.

I hate seeing things get branded as "gaming" it is just a buzzword used to sell products, although I understand why manufacturers do it.
When I saw the logo in Toms K70 RGB vid I have to admit I had a WTF moment. It didn't look like it belonged on the K70 and looked out of place, most of Corsairs stuff has that clean and elegant look to it and that logo spoils that nice clean elegant look.

It's up to Corsair what they do with their stuff though, but personally I don't like it and I wouldn't buy anything with that logo on it.

I never get their peripherals anymore so it doesn't bother me. It does look a bit cheap but at the same time, its probably designed to go after Razer as its pretty memorable.

Less is more imo when it comes to logos.

I mean working in marketing I kinda get the "Gaming" branding as it strongly identifies a product for a purpose and thus customers will see it and think oohh this will be "Better" for gaming.
That said i'm personally not a huge not a fan of gaming branding and especially seeing a company like corsair that are so well known and respected in the enthusiast community I felt it was a bit unnecessary or at the very least poorly executed
