RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 memory capacities confirmed - Expect BIG frame buffers

A 24GB consumer graphics card?

Read more about Nvidia's RTX 30 series frame buffer sizes.

At this time it is unknown why Nvidia's offering such a vast frame buffer on its gaming flagship.
I'd of thought it was blindingly obvious...to annoy the early 3080 adopters with a refreshed 3080 Super/Ti launch in 2021, with more VRAM and probably a few more Cuda Cores.

A 14GB differential gives them the room to do just that, rather than any actual need for 24GB on the 3090.

big price jump

No sane person would pay the £600 difference for a small speed bump between 3080 and 3090 if they both had the same ram.

It won't be a small speed bump.

The 3080 has been rumoured to be 10-15% faster than the Ti in non RTX workloads.

The 3090 has apparently been reported to be about 38% faster.

Unless you care about RT then the 3080 is not the card for 2080Ti owners. If you want the mega performance bump you go 3090. Nvidia are not stupid.

Of course Jen will talk poo as he always does and make it all about RTX, but underneath that there will be real world performance. And selling your 2080Ti for £550 or whatever some people have been selling them for (nutters) and buying a 3080 is a really silly idea. Mostly because it will only massively improve RT, and that isn't saying very much given how few RT titles we have.

I will be skipping this gen completely, given I don't think RT is all that and the 2080Ti is more than enough (like stupid more than enough) for anything at 1440p. And it will be for ages to come, because the consoles have much less VRAM and the games will all need to work and run on those first.

From what I have heard there won't be a Ti (they are usually safety measures) so if you are waiting for that you will have a long wait. It's 3080 and 3090, possibly Super cards lower down the stack if AMD come with anything half decent.

is it possible the doubled VRAM capacity is Nvidia using the same silicone and PCB for gaming and quadro cards? and just having different drivers and loading more VRAM?

I suspect they're keeping the 3080Ti just in case the new AMD cards are good then they can go bam here's a $1000us card with more ram more power at the same price type of business

QUADRO cards do use same silicon and PCBs as gaming cards but they have ECC Memory. Also with QUADRO cards you pay for Tech Support and software validation. Tose cards are guaranteed to work with 3ds MAX for example and all bugs will be fixed. If you use Geforce card for 3ds MAX it will work fine but if you report bug to Nvidia or Auto Desk they will just ignore you.

You're probably right dude, but whatever they call it they're definitely holding one back.
