Nintendo's Portable-only Switch Lite will release this September
Is handheld-only Switch really a Switch?

Yeah this is because the 3DS line is essentially being deprecated, 3DS's are only still in manufacture because of customer/retail demand but Nintendo arn't making any more games for that platform and want Switch to be their main handheld line too, which means they need a model that's cheaper and more rugged for the young 'uns or people who want a pure handheld.

with how many video's on YT repairing the joy-cons on these I think I'd rather pay the extra for the proper switch

To be fair most of the things that caused issues have been removed entirely, or were there because of the re-movability, Switch's OG design was fundamentally kinda fragile in a few aspects which doesn't seem to be the case with this chunky little thing with no detachable parts.

Nintendo Switch 5C.
It's a shame they got rid of dual screen handheld consoles...

Watched 1 the other day 18 joy-cons and the amount that had the bumper button inside broken off, at least with the proper switch you can replace them

These seem to have different, chunkier bumpers though, I doubt they'd stick with a known design flaw, the bumpers in the JoyCons were really light, clicky and a little loose compared to say the WiiU because of how thin they are.

As much as I want a Switch, I'm still gonna wait for a more powerful one.
