But I am 90% sure they mean Zen architecture based CPUs are going to be supported on AM4. I would kinda hope AM4 as a socket is kept, obvious reasons, but I sure do hope they at least update chipsets to keep up with I/O(like more NVMe or USB Gen 4 or whatever)
Don't you mean they'd release a new chipset?

What? I said that lol
If you are talking about the first thing I said, then no I meant what I said.
If they supported AM4(the socket/platform is called AM4) till 2020, but released a new socket called AM5 for example, but still made efforts to support AM4, is technically supporting it. Just not the way everyone is thinking by what they meant. So they wouldn't be lying per say, but the way they mean it is that Zen is staying on AM4 and they are not pulling an Intel move with a new socket every year.

I'll explain the 2nd part better.

I am hopeful they keep AM4. But update the chipset. Like X470/B450/X400. New I/O should be supported and say PCI Express 4.0 should be supported as well in the future.

Oh, I get you now. I thought you were saying you could just update the BIOS of the AM4 socket to become a new socket, which makes no sense.

I actually never thought that's what AMD meant, but it is possible that they intend to replace the socket within a few years but continue to 'support' AM4.

Well I don't really care about more features like more NVME slots, Wifi etc... but it would be nice if I could keep my current mobo and just plop in Zen+ next year

Unless some big new technology comes out next year or so that's absolutely amazing, I'm really quite happy with the AM4/X370/B350/etc motherboard. I prefer Intel's multiple m.2 slots, because the less cables I have in my case the better, but that's really not a deal breaker, and there are X370 motherboards with more than one m.2 slot.

I don't either. But I think the newer boards that will come out will be way ahead in terms of quality. Instead of being used as beta testers as tom calls it. I just feel they are going to be very solid since Ryzen has proved to be a success.
