AMD's Ryzen 9 3900X is currently available for under £400 in the UK

Good all round :)

I love how quickly AMD reduce prices on their CPUs making them affordable to all.

Intel never drop their prices on released product. Not even right at the EOL.

offering gamers access to three months of Xbox Game Pass for PC

I got this and a free games when I got my 3700X, I had nothing about it on Amazon but I got the emails after delivery

Remember when these sold for £550?

Apparently the starting price of £550 was because of low yields and retailer price gouging, According to various forums the price is going back to £450+ in the next week or so.

I picked my 3900X up for £479.99 on pre-release order from OCUK 8 months ago, I don't regret for one moment paying that; for under £400 it's a steal and I hope many more consumers jump on the Ryzen train as a result of it.

I know it's happened with the past 2 gens, but I thought the value of Ryzen 3000 would hold a lot longer.
But this is awesome to see, yields and supply must be in a good place.
At this rate we will see £400 3950X in a year or so lol!

What a bargin, Grab one while you can. With Lunar new year and COVID19 at the same time the far east was in almost complete shutdown for a month. From my line of work the factories are all back to work now but there might be slight shortages/ higher than normal demand due to the longer than usual down time.
Wish I had the cask to get one, would be a huge upgrade at a really good price.

Currently have a 7900X.

Would this be a good replacement? Or is the 7900X still good for a few years?

7900X is good for a few more years yet, Will you see a performance jump ? Of course but to put it into perspective for you with my 3950X in Cinebench R20 I can get 533 in single core and a hair off 11,000 in multi, Just take a few cores off and do the maths ^_^

CPUs now will last longer than ever.

Put it this way if I had any sense I'd just be upgrading my 6 core 3970x sandy.

Now if you "want" to change and can afford it? Do it.

I'd never tell someone don't do what makes you happy.

Mainly comes down to that fact the the 7900X is delidded and I've read I'll need to re-do it every year and it STILL runs hot, whereas I wouldn't have this issue with a Ryzen chip.

The two things that are stopping me are 1) the downgrade in terms of PCIE lanes/quad memory support and 2) I am absolutely in love with my MB and don't want to change it.

Plus I'd guess I'd need a new block or bracket at the very least.
