Some pictures progressing the last few days:

Initial testing:

Initial cable management (that has since been mostly scrapped) and first test fitting and first boot inside the case.

So, changes that will be made in the coming weeks:

  • Move the LED strip to the top of the case so the lights are pointing downwards rather than to the rear. Either that or purchase another Darkside LED strip and install it at the bottom of the case
  • Return dead BeQuiet fan and replace it
  • Purchase custom cables and completely redo the cable management including purchasing new heat shrink to clean things up
  • Work on air flow and fan curve. At the moment the system is very quiet, but it's not cooling as well as I think it could be
  • Overclock memory to 3200Mhz
  • Overclock 1600X
  • Purchase orange labels and add orange accents where appropriate
  • Remove hard drive label or cover over

The cooler actually doesn't fully fit. It's squashed against the glass. The specs said it should fit, but it's really tight.

Before building the new system I benchmarked Arkham Knight. With a 4670K at 4.5Ghz and DDR3 at 1866Mhz, I hit 111 FPS in the inbuilt benchmark. With the stock Ryzen system (memory at base speeds—2133Mhz I think—and 1600X at base speeds) I hit 109 FPS. Well, I woke up this morning and decided to give one of the DRAM profiles on my C6H board a try just for fun. It was a 3200Mhz CL 14 at 1.4V profile. It booted straight away. I ran AK and I hit 119 FPS. That's a huge increase especially at 1440p. Either that was all the memory or it was partly the FCU update that happened yesterday, or a bit of both. I've just purchased a copy of AIDA64 and I'm going to test the memory properly.

Edit: I was wrong. The memory was running at 2933Mhz (even though I loaded a 3200Mhz profile). Now I've actually loaded 3200Mhz and my scores are 122 FPS compared to the 111 FPS of my previous system.

109 FPS - Stock 1600X & Stock Memory
111 FPS - Overclocked 4670K & Stock Memory
119 FPS - Stock 1600X & 2933Mhz Memory
122 FPS - Stock 1600X & 3200Mhz Memory

Looks great mate. Nice and clean. Gotta love those Jonsbo cases, too. Keep the updates coming!

Also, have you noticed any difference in temperatures with that M.2 heatsink? I've been contemplating buying one myself, but I personally haven't noticed particularly high temps. Certainly looks the part, though.

Because the M.2 drive is only used for the OS and programs, it doesn't experience any heavy load. Temperatures during AIDA64 stress tests (CPU/FPU/Memory/Cache) were around 34°C. I imagine that's as hot as it'll ever get since it doesn't get pushed very hard with my limited workload.

Memory is running very stable at 3200Mhz 1.35V on BIOS version 1602 from ASUS. I've been quite fortunate in that area.

The GTX 1080 memory topped out at 12150Mhz. I backed it down to 12000Mhz. I have the core clock at 2025Mhz. I don't really feel the need to push it any higher. I may even drop it down to 2000Mhz, just because it's nice to have a round number.

Next step is to overclock the CPU. Then I'll start measuring for the custom cables.

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on Ryzen overclocking? I've heard mixed reports. Some admonish C-state overclocking, something I've never done before, while others say that manual overclocking is fine even if Ryzen is not downclocking at idle. Still others say offset overclocking works well. And then you have the Ryzen Master crowd who are contented to use that. Any suggestions?
