Fractal Design Define C - An OC3D Themed Case Mod

Hey Guys,

so after watching Tommy's recent Subscriber Video, i decided to share my last Build with you, since it was in part inspired by OC3D and it's distinct Color Scheme. I kinda wanted to "give something back" to him and his Community, even if it's just a bit of Eye Candy, or Inspiration to someone that might be on the Edge about modding his first PC.

This Build has since been sold. I originally planned to take proper Photos of the latest Mod, so that it could be displayed on the Fractal Design Website. Unfortunately i never got around to it. So this will also be a bit of a Farewell. I put a lot of Money and Work into this Machine, and it probably deserved a better End, than to just disappear into the Ether after an eBay Auction. Whatever, Life is cruel.

The Rig had a Bunch of different Hardware in it over the last two Years, from low to high end. I will try to scramble a couple Pictures togehter, to give you a better Idea.

It all started with an Intel Core i5 6600K and a GTX 1070. I eventually upgraded to a 7700K, after i shorted my MSI Z170A Gaming M7 Motherboard, because i tried to install one of CableMod's RGB Strips while the System was running. The RGB Strip slipped out of my Hands and made Contact with the Board. The PC shut down immediately and never turned back on. That wasn't the proudest Moment of my PC Building Career, but i learned my Lesson. Maybe that was just what i got for wanting to use RGB's.

The Performance Bump from the 7700K was significant in Gaming, but the 8700K released shortly after. I kinda knew the 8700K was on the Horizon back then, but i didn't quite do my Homework, and i was too impatient to wait for it. The Pricing and Availability here in Germany was e anyway. I eventually decided to delid the 7700K, after watching a couple Videos from Steve from Gamers Nexus. I used the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut and the RockItCool Custom Copper IHS, and i also did not reseal the Chip with Silicon. The Temperature drop was tremendous. I was even able to overclock it to 5.4GHz at 1.5V, and Temperatures never went beyond 89°C in Prime95 on a Fractal Design Kelvin S36 AIO with the Fans running at Stock Speed. My daily Overclock was 5GHz at 1.32V and 700RPM on the Fans, which made the System almost inaudible. I paired it with a GTX 1080 Ti from MSI, which i later replaced with a Founders Edition Card, because i wanted to build a Custom Watercooling Loop, potentially with the Fluid Gaming Kits from EKWB, which also never happened. I then went on a Vacation and quickly sold both Cards for 650€ each, to have a little spending Money for Cigars, Strippers, and other Expenses. Little did i know that GPU Mining would take off one Month after, with Prices going up to 1.200€. After that, i had multiple Cards from NVIDIA. The GTX 1060, 1070, 1070 Ti, 1080. I kinda went through the whole Line Up.

After seeing the Direction which both Intel and NVIDIA are going, and how they are treating their Customers, i decided to sell the whole Thing, and to build an all AMD System for the first Time in 10 Years, which i am still currently working on.

Here are the Specs that the System had in it's last and final Form:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K

CPU Cooler: MSI Frozr L

Motherboard: MSI Z270 Mpower Gaming Titanium

Graphics Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

RAM: 8GB G.Skill RipJaws V at 3600MHz

Solid State Drive: 256GB Samsung SM951 M.2

Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 9-CM 500W

Case: Fractal Design Define C

I hope you enjoyed the little Backstory. As you'll see, the Fractal Design Define C was almost unrecognizable at the End. If you have any Questions, please let me know! Also Shoutout to Bill Owen from Mnpctech and Joe from jojococo studio on YouTube.

I know what you're thinking. Did he really glue an external DVD Drive to the back of his PC? Yes. Yes, i did. Oh, and there's also an external Hard Drive in there, sitting on the PSU Shroud.

MSI Fanboy much?!

I drilled a little over 500 Holes into the Front Panel for better Airflow and custom Painted it with silver Plasti Dip.

Here she is! The Project Name for this Build was "Frame Chaser" at one Point. If i see anyone of yall steal that Name, i'm gon' beat yo A**. Just kidding. I cut an Opening into the Front Panel and put a fine Mesh in there. This also allowed me to move the Case Fans right behind the Panel, giving me more Space for lenghty GPU's inside.

As you can see, i put a nice Glass Window in the Top of the Case, with a Rubber Seal around it. It's actually glued in with 3M VHB Adhesive Tape, the transparent one.

I never like the red LED's, but hey, they are there.

The End.

Frame Chaser, R.I.P. 2016-2018.

Thank you very much! This was my first Case Mod. It cost a lot of Money, and a lot of Time, but i think it was well worth it in the End. I might get a new Fractal Case in the near Future and just start working on it. They are just so elegant. To me, they are like a Canvas.

I love my Define C, though I do miss the Define S for the mass air flow.
