Still probably not worth it unless you have a few hundred.

As a bit of an example, at my University there's 'Investment and Trading Society' (not that I go, but my housemates do), they all have to pay £40 at the start of the year, then pool all the money together and spread bet it all, then share out the profits at the end of the year.

So in total with 60ish members, they had £2500 or so to spreadbet with. At the end of the year, they made £4 profit each - and these are meant to be clever minds with a keen interest in the stock markets. That just shows how difficult it really is to make money in stocks unless you have a fair bit to invest in the first place.
The old saying rings true here, you need money to make money. The days of the small time trader making it big over time are gone. The only way remaining is to be come a certified broker and then create your own 'brokerage house' in order to avoid the broker fees which hamstring your profitability.

Thanks,

I'd definitely go for the horses with four legs to be in with the best chance

Try bet spreading, it is like trading shares but its quicker and there is no tax involved.

I only wanted to do stocks/shares really, only doing it for fun, if I could make big money then great but really not looking to go down the dark alley of betting and all. Never had an interest in that.

They can be a nice form of savings with such low interest rates at the moment. A few industries shall only be rising for the next few decades, pharmaceuticals and space industry. These companies are receiving a lot of govt. grants so is definitely worth an investment.

Was going to make my own thread, but searched first and found this - so might as well get this going a bit again.

Anyone currently trading?

I used to exchange cryptocoins (mostly altcoins), i might get into it again, but its risky. It's not like gambling but sometimes it can be unpredictable
