H440 Gunmetal Grey 'Hero'

Hello Everyone

I have just started to build a new system. I have only built one system before, so I am still very much a newbie with a lot to learn.

This is still very much a work in progress and I am still in the process of buying all of the parts but this is what I have done as of today 2 October 2015

Started off with a Black / Red NZXT H440.

I stripped it down completely, replacing the all of the stock fans - 3 Corsair 120 SP's PWM at the front, due to the restrictive air vents and a Corsair 140 AF at the back. When I get round to installing the radiator for the AIO Cpu cooler, there will be another 2 Corsair 120 SP PWM's fitted to it.

I have replaced the LED resistor board with an upgraded version

I replaced the LED NZXT panel on the PSU shroud with a custom made ROG LED panel.

I also replaced the standard clear side panel window with a tinted one.

The biggest change I have made to the case was the colour. Whilst I really like the Red / Black, everyone seems to have one these days and given that I will be fitting a Asus Hero VIII, I decided to go with the Gunmetal Grey and Red Colour scheme.

So I started with this

and this

and ended up with this

and this

Like the idea dude. Don't take this the wrong way, the exterior needs a few more coats to even it out. Always good to see people doing their own thing and changing things up to personalise their rig.

Thanks, all feedback very much appreciated.

This is the first time I have ever painted a pc case. Well actually the first time I have actually spray painted anything. Whilst it looks much better in the flesh, I would have to agree with you especially in terms of the front panel, in the picture it looks very streaky. I think it is made worse by the flash, as in the flesh it doesn't look that bad.

On the bright side, I used plasti-dip so worse comes to the worse I can just pull it off

Ok in terms of what next and this is where you guys can help me

I have ordered an Asus Hero Viii and I am planning on using a Corsair H110iGTX to cool the CPU and more than likely a Corsair PSU.

Now I am in two minds about fan control. From what I have read the Hero is excellent for fan control and for the pumo.

However, with the Corsair fans, H110iGTX and the PSU, I am not sure if the Corsair Commander would be a better option as it will allow the PSU and H110 to be plugged straight into it, give me more heat sensors and additional LED control.

From my existing set up, I am aware of the issues with the link software so I am very much 50/50 at the moment.

Anyone have any thoughts ?

Hello

On my current system and previous build, I have an Asus P8Z68-V PRO Z68 running a 2500k (just checked my account with Ebuyer and noticed I built this in 2011... where have the years gone) with two Asus GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB GDDR5 running in SLI. Until last year the CPU was air cooled by a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2.

However, last year I treated myself to a Corsair H80iand upgraded to Windows 8.1. There was no end of problems getting the link software to work correctly. It would not recognise my pump and everytime I loaded it, I had to redo the layout of my hardware. It would also not show my second graphics card

Followed all the advice on the forum and nothing would resolve the issue. Fortunately, I found one post - not sure where, it might even have been here from someone with the same problem and the fix was straight forward.

For some reason, I am not sure if this is just related to my motherboard but if you have anything plugged into the USB ports at the front of the case that are plugged into one of the USB ports on the board, it interferes with the link software set up and operation. My Keyboard and mouse was plugged in the front, due to the location of my PC. However, I then plugged them in the back, reinstalled link and hey presto everything worked.

However, when looking for a solution I read about so many people having problems with the software that I am not a little cautious about using the commander mini. I want to because of the benefits of using it but I have read that the Hero VIII is also very good for pump control now.

So still thinking about it

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay in posting an update, I am trying to do a bit month by month.

ok latest update

I have ordered some cablemods from Overclockers

http://cablemod.com/

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/produ...428&subid=3045

They are just to make some extensions for the motherboard and graphic cards power cables. I wanted my cables to be mainly silver with red and black to match my build. I couldn't find the ones I wanted, so after watching TTL's youtube video, I thought I would make my own

I will post some pics when they arrive and I have put them together
