I haven't watched this (at work) but I will tonight. But it sounds like a bit of a 'lets get views' video to me.

I'll comment more later but my initial comments are

Not all "internal" sound cards are created equally, Creative hit a high-point with the X-Fi series, and their latest offerings are completely dog in comparison. They've somehow gone backwards in quality of components etc. They used to be the pack-leaders, but they've slipped up by trying to milk money from something bad in my eyes. The retirement of X-Fi cards is a god damn shame.

Auzentech utilised that chip to great affect with the X-Fi Prelude card, with swappable op-amps it was amazing...

Now, we get to something like a Xonar Essence STX and the quality that produces...

Astounding, if you can't hear the difference between onboard, Creative "gaming" brand cards, usb headsets/decoders and something like a high end xonar, then honestly. Go home and don't bother spending your money... There is a mighty huge difference

I'll come back later once I've watched the video but I highly doubt it will change my opinion...

So i've just watched this, and I am by no stretch of the imagination an Audiophile, but i do like music and i prefer it to be clear and crisp and natural sounding as i can achieve.

Now i have a set of ATH M50, they're not exactly high end headphones, but they are considered as a number one buy in the £150 price bracket. In the last year ive built a Z77 rig and a Z87 rig using both onboard audio, SupremeFX, now it doesn't sound terrible, but its designed to be an 'all round solution' i have a friend with a STX and ive tried my M50's using that sound card using the Flac audio from my collection, and it sounds completely different, the high's are clearer, mids sounds perfect, and the low end is punchy.

Then a couple of the guys twisted my arm into getting a Fio E10, and now i power my M50's from that and the same audio files sound very similar to the STX, although i found the E10 drives my headphones a little easier.

Now for Logan to say soundcards are a waste is a bit ignorant, because 'he came from music' he should know that onboard solutions are built as a cost effective option, and soundcards being dedicated to audio processing are more efficient at providing high quality sounds.

My cousin who is no expert on the subject, he plays football manager thats as far as his gaming goes, apart from Fifa on the console, he used my E10 and headphones and was shocked at how much more immersion he got from using that, now if he can notice the difference, surely there's something to it!

I know for a fact if i had a extra slot in my rig id have a STX all day long, people don't go around saying something is amazing if it not?

For gaming a additional soundcard may be an overkill, but for audio, no its not!!

Logan doesn't know much, the real brains behind Teksyndicate is Wendell.
Watching Logan talk sometimes if painful because he clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

He is an ex salesman from Tiger.com after all.

i have both an stx and a lot of external solutions and i must say that the stx improves the sound quite a bitt without a doubt. But a prefer my external solutions (of the same price and a lot cheaper as the stx) : digiZoid ZO2.3 / FiiO E07K / and this awesome looking beast JDS Labs cmoyBB v2.02

(this is probably because of the cleaner EQ => personal preference). the meaning of the vid is to tell people to stay away from the gamer soundcards and just go external for the same price.

*external (been bugging me that one)

P.S. If the video is to woo people away from gaming sound cards (great in the case of crappy Recon3D, but the X-Fi ones are still alright) then fair enough, that I can understand. Then you need to change your thread title, because I saw that, and pretty much thought whoever posted it was an idiot lol.

Logan hasn't in any videos up to now made me feel like he knows what he's talking about, yet...

Gaming sound cards were born in the world when we had XP and a different sound processing path, since Vista/win 7 this just got turned off, so a lot of the benefits seen from X-Fi and previous generation cards were pretty much completely lost. And they have become less important, personally I preferred gaming using XP and the oldschool sound methods, everything just felt better, the sound cards were at their 100% full potential and games with EAX and stuff sounded fricking superb.

Windows has moved on, and unfortunately crippled this advantage, which I believe is while the Recon3D series of creative cards are such a pile of compared to their previous offerings.

I'm looking forward to watching this video after work I may lol a lot

Logan occasionally produces videos which aren't the mainstream opinion (like that 8350 vs i5 vs i7 video, oh it rustled a few jimmies) and sometimes he gets it right. This one wasn't clear enough. He's going against 'gaming' soundcards and the use of internal soundcards in gaming.
